What is MeiGen MCP?
MeiGen MCP connects image generation, video generation and five visual Skills to AI tools through the Model Context Protocol. Use it with compatible MCP clients such as ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, OpenClaw or another compatible client, either for a single creative task or as part of your own workflow.
How do I sign in, and which credits are used?
The ChatGPT plugin connects through MeiGen sign-in; you do not need an API key. Other compatible clients connect through OAuth too. API keys are retained only for legacy MCP compatibility. Searching inspiration and checking models or Skills do not spend generation credits. Paid generation uses purchased credits from that account; daily free credits and Web free attempts do not apply. Top up on your Profile page, then return to your AI tool.
Add creditsCan I keep using my legacy API key?
Existing API keys retain their original generation and public-search access. They do not support favorites, boards or private history. Keep existing keys in private client settings; use OAuth for new connections and personal-library access. Remove any fixed Authorization header when migrating to OAuth.
Manage existing keysHow do I provide an image? What if upload fails?
Attach the actual image or provide a public HTTPS image URL. A remote server cannot open a local file path: your AI tool must send accessible image bytes or a URL. If upload fails, follow its size or format guidance, or try a valid public URL. For Upscale, always provide the original image and tell the AI it is for Upscale. Avoid repeatedly resubmitting failed jobs.
My generation was interrupted. Should I start again?
Ask the AI to check the original task first. A disconnected conversation does not mean the generation failed. MeiGen can recover progress and completed results using the original request or task ID. Starting a new generation can incur another charge.
Should I use remote MCP or install locally?
Use remote MCP with OAuth for a new MeiGen connection; no Node.js is needed. The local package remains for existing integrations, local file handling and compatible image APIs. Its legacy MeiGen API key does not grant access to your personal library.
How do existing users update to the latest version?
Remote users can reconnect or refresh their tool list. Local users pinned to an older meigen version should update their package/configuration after reading the release notes and restart the client. Update a full plugin through its own installer too. Keep your existing key and avoid duplicate MeiGen connections. Follow the upgrade guide for changed tool contracts.
